Coaching Culture Problems

Coaching is gay. This whole coaching culture profits by digging further into fear and excuses, finding dark areas and turning them into the light, which would be awesome, but there's this focus, this whole approach about measuring risks, going deep into your crap, making lists of pros, cons and possible regrets. It's a lot of work for what amounts to building elaborate justifications for inaction.

The Safety Trap

A whole business to make you feel safe about the idea of taking risks. But risk ain't safe. You shouldn't want to feel safe, you should want to feel unsafe. The entire coaching industry is built on a fundamental contradiction: it promises to make risk-taking comfortable, but true growth happens in discomfort. I can barely type "fear, regrets, excuses" without feeling disgust. Yet these guys talk all day about them. Yeah right.

The Wrong Motivation

Getting impulse from the "oh when I die I will wish I had done that!" is beta. I'm not saying the concept is wrong, I'm saying the approach is. This motivational framework forces you to constantly ruminate on mortality and regret, turning every action into some grand existential calculation. When you wake up in the morning you don't need to consider "when I die, will I regret not doing this?" when going to the bathroom, having breakfast and checking email.

Just Do It

So why should it be more strange to be around women and people, build a successful business, conquer the world, and be truly happy with your life? It shouldn't, it's not. Action doesn't require elaborate frameworks or emotional preparation. You simply move forward without overthinking, without constant introspection, without the weight of manufactured regret. The path forward is simpler than coaching culture wants you to believe.
